I've got the same problem after upgrading from vCenter 5.1 to 5.5 - host is server 2008r2 with local ms sql (also 2008r2). After I click on vCenter advanced settings tab, everything gets really slow and the page just sits on loading and never loads, soon other random tabs/pages I click on begin hanging as well. Tried restarting vCenter service alone, but so far only one solution worked for me - reboot the server. After reboot everything works normal, I can successfully open vCenter advanced settings tab and change settings, however after some time the problem comes back...
