First time setting up a VMware cluster - I'm not sure if things are setup right and need some help configuring certain things:
Hardware:
3x Dell R710 Servers with 6 NICs (ESXi Servers)
1x Dell R310 Server with 6 NICs (Windows 2008 R2 - vCenter & Management)
2x Dell PowerConnect 6224 Stacking Switches
1x Dell MD3200i SAN
1x Dell MD1200 DAS
I would like to make sure the Management Network is setup right. I have 2 NICs on each Server dedicated to the LAN / Management Network. I set them up for FT and LB when I installed ESXi. They are vmnic1 and vmnic0 on vSwitch0. They are teamed in the vSphere client as well - both as active adapters. The VM Network and Management Network are connected to the vSwitch. vMotion is enabled as well. Is all this correct?
I have the SAN network setup on vSwitch1 with iSCSI. I'm not sure if I need to create separate vSwitches for each VMKernel Port, or can have all of them attach to the same vSwitch. The vmnic's 2-5 are teamed and active adapters. The SAN, Switches and vSwitch1 have Jumbo Frames enabled and working.
Dell had me setup the SAN like this:
Controller 0 iSCSI port 0: 192.168.130.101
Controller 0 iSCSI port 1: 192.168.131.101
Controller 0 iSCSI port 2: 192.168.132.101
Controller 0 iSCSI port 3: 192.168.133.101
Controller 1 iSCSI port 0: 192.168.130.102
Controller 1 iSCSI port 1: 192.168.131.102
Controller 1 iSCSI port 2: 192.168.132.102
Controller 1 iSCSI port 3: 192.168.133.102
My questions are:
1. Should vMotion be enabled on the iSCSI Network or the Management Network?
2. Should the VM Network and Management Network be on different vSwitches?
3. Does the VM Network belong on vSwitch1 or vSwitch2?
4. Also, how should I setup Fault Tolerance?
