I basically agree with that SAN administration - unpresenting old LUNs and presenting the new ones - is required. However, there may be more you need to do than this. Depending on the ESXi version you may end up with dead paths (APD) issues, if you do not properly detach the old datastores from the host prior to unpresenting the LUNs.
