did you happen to find a solution for this issue?

I do encounter similar problems using the Web Client of a vCenter 5.1 appliance (and ESXi 5.1 hosts).

Power on just doesn't seem to have any effect (besides the temporary change of the cursor), however using the classic vSphere client powering on the VMs works just fine...
