If all your trying to do is an upgrade you may have to go ahead and just remove vCenter (NOT THE DATABASE)from the server. Some times for some reason it just gets hung up. As long as your vCenter database is in tacked and accessible the actual vCenter server isnt a big deal to redo. Just ensure your database is kept in tack. When you uninstall make sure you also remove the AD LDS Instance VMwareVCMSDS program. Starting fresh from that will probably get everything to work. Once again, I stress make sure your database is not removed, deleted anything...the vCenter install is just accessing that so anything you do the the actual vCenter software doesnt matter as long as the DB is ok.
