Re: vSphere 6 standard - sso

Good Morning Andre!

So I was able to reboot the server but still have no luck connecting from the client windows or web!

I can RDP into the server and start the client but it will only connect using the "Use Windows session credentials" check box.

It must use a cached account because I add the exact login information and it gets an error if I uncheck that box.

If unchecked I get an "untrusted SSL certificate is installed   (not sure if that is affecting it or not)

I have tried installing it in trusted root a few times and doesnt seem to make a difference.

Do you know who I would contact to help gain access to the root or local.administrator?

Thank you for your help!

David Chastain

Didn't the admin document anything, e.g. the admin password?

Did you check the server's event logs after the reboot, to see whether it contains any related entries?

Did you try to login with or without specifying the domain, i.e. "domain\username", or just "username"? The domain may be required if it's no set as the default within the vCenter Server configuration.

Good Morning!

Unfortunately the information I have is not accurate.

I have attempted to contact him but (believe it or not) he is not answering!

I have tried several variations of my known good login information.

I downloading the system logs now but it seems to be very large! ..5 minutes and its at 3%

Anything in particular I should be looking for in the logs?

Should I have a SSO service running?

Identity sources - AD integrated - mutliple domains

I currently have 3 domains that I have individual ldap identity sources:

college.edu

business.college.edu

busdom.college.edu

I would like to switch from using lpa as an identity source to using AD Integrated. From what I have been reading this would be pretty straightforward as long as my VCenter server is domain joined. This would make sense if I only had 1 domain. How would this work with multiple domains?

For example, to do this, I would add the VCenter server to the busdom.college.edu domain. Would users from the college.edu or the business.college.edu domain be able to authenticate? (I would remove ldap identity sources from all domains). I read somewhere that they would as long as they log with <domain>\username or username@<domain>. Is that correct?

Thanks,

Jim

Quickest and easiest steps to take for upgrading / migrating VCSA-HA to the latest version?

$

Hi All,

I need the quickest and the easiest way to patch Center appliance (VCSA) that is configured with High Availability (HA).

Since there are three VM nodes (Active, Passive and Witness).

  1. Create a VM snapshot on the Active VCSA-HA node and note down the existing ESXi server hosting it.
  2. Connect to the Active VCSA via Putty, then issue destroy-vcha -F command to destroy/dissolve the VCHA.
  3. Delete both Passive & Witness VCSA nodes.
  4. Follow your steps defined in https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vcenter.upgrade.doc/GUID-C27CD7DF-AB52-4A77-A6A6-A966498D5CA0.html
  5. Once verified up and running, configure VCHA using: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vsphere.avail.doc/GUID-5F7DAFB2-60BD-4C50-A7E5-29A319CBB714.html
  6. verify 3x VCSA-HA are up and running.

However, I got confused in the steps #4 between https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vsphere.avail.doc/GUID-10E2660C-B0AD-4C1C-AD87-24AB4F2B8995.html or https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vsphere.avail.doc/GUID-5F7DAFB2-60BD-4C50-A7E5-29A319CBB714.html

Any help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

if you have vcsa 6.7u3b and afterwards the procedure is:

- patch the witness via ssh

- patch the passive via ssh

- manually failover

- patch the current passive

but this takes a long time, so the fastest way is to destroy vcha, take a snapshot, patch the remaining vcsa and deploy vcha after this

Unfortunately no, I got the first edition of VCSA 6.7 and the other sites got VCSA 6.5.

ok with 6.7 prior to u3b you will run into problems if you patch each node  - so destroy vcha and patch the remaining node.

with 6.5 HA i have no experience

the link points to a procedure when you have to repair vcha.

for patching you should only choose "remove vcenter ha" in the client or issue "destroy-vcha" via ssh. after patching go trough the wizard and setup vcha like you did the first time

VCSA v7.0 Storage Use

This is resource use from my work vCenter 6.7 server running 5 datacenters in three countries with 336 VM's.

Work.jpg

This is from my vCenter homelab that I updated to from 6.7 to 7.0 last night running 5 small Linux vms on a single host.

Home.jpg

Why does this require half of my 1TB datastore? Is there anything I can do to reduce this massive chunk of storage?

OK, do you have the link for creating the VC-HA for v6.7?

Here are the drive stats for the VCSA. Massive overkill.

I'm going to see what I can do to reduce this without impeding the day to day operations.

Go to DNS>Properties>Name Servers and Add the IP Address for the FQDN of the DNS server. It probably never resolved. This was my issue with joining AD.

Can you please attach vcsa-cli-installer.log file

Also by logging into the system please check whether appmgmt service is up and running /var/log/firstboot/*applmgmt*

There is no supported way so shrink the partitions.

Hi Jay,

which vCenter Version are you trying to run.

And just to let you know the vCenter Server Appliance is only supported on vSphere ESXi, and not in VMware Player.
