I found some information out yesterday. I called VMWare support and was told the following. (The tech is going to followup on part of this but if anyone else can confirm that would be great.)
We created snapshot with quiesce guest file system on a 5.1 u1 system, a 5.1 u2 system and a 5.5 system. The 5.1 u1 and the 5.5 systems both created 2 snapshot files. The 5.1 u2 only created one. The vmware tech thought this was by designed but was going to check with his back staff.
Side question that relates to snapshots - I also asked him if taking a snapshot will reset CBT. What started this whole process is that we are now using commvault as our backup solution and while looking at some slowdowns. What I've read and from what the vmware tech said is that taking a snapshot will reset the change log for cbt. Is this what others have seen? Any comments?
