Re: Effective permissions with same user in multiple groups/roles

Picture this setup.

User A is a member of both Active Directory groups X & Y.

On 'VM's and Templates', X group has administrator role and Y read only role

Does user A get read only according to group Y role or administrator according to group X role on the 'VM's and Templates' object?

User "A"  will get Administrator role.

What is the version ?

You mean , deleted administrator@vsphere.local account ? Do you have alternate administrator account created post installation ? SSO admin account is necessary to login to SSO administration page to perform SSO admin tasks such as creating users etc..

.

It won't allow you to go from 6.5 Windows to 6.5 VSA. Guess I shouldn't have stayed up to date.

I can tell you some more information. This problem existed in the 6.5 GA release, where the Flash client had the sort order backwards compared to the HTML5 client.  I contacted support last fall and after weeks of effort was able to obtain a custom patch to fix the issue with the Flash client.  I put off updates as long as possible and today I've patched to the latest release (Feb 15th) and the Flash client sort order is correct but the HTML5 client order is now backwards.  Now I will have to fight with support for weeks again to get this resolved.  Quite disappointing.

creating a static DNS entry worked! thanks! but the deployment stops with the following error:

"vimservice creation failed:"

some kind of connection error?

Please show screenshots of your installation process (all steps) and the values you input. vCSA deployment failures usually come down to one of three things:

  1. You don't have proper forward and reverse DNS.
  2. You don't have NTP.
  3. The three systems involved in the deployment of vCSA (workstation from which the deployment is run; target ESXi host; and vCSA appliance itself) do not have time synchronization between them.

Showing your steps will help to isolate which one.

New install - VMWare V-Center - Invalid Credentials

Hi Guys Hope you all are well.

I am fairly new to VMWare buit have my ESXI test machine up and running. I downloaded and Booted a copy of VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-6.5.0.14000-7515524_OVF10.

So far i have only managed to browse to the logon page(1st time seeing the page)

I cannot seem to log in with the pre-configured username and password. It keeps telling me "Invalid Credentials" I know exactly what it is and have screenshots from when i configured the Virtual Appliance. Please note that i have deleted and performed the Virtual setup about 4 times just to make sure i have typed everything correctly and to document what i have done.

I have also visited many forums to try and find an answer, but I've either missed the exact answer i need or just can find anything that points me in the correct direction

I have tried a few variations of the username and have tried the suggested default username and passwords on this page

Usernames Tried

administrator@mydomain.local (My actual domain)

vsphere6.local\administrator

administrator@vsphere.local

admin@system-domain

Now the thing is useing my "root" and root password work but then i get the message saying "You are not authorized" and gets logged out immediately

Help will be highly appreciated

Regards

Corne

Hi Corne,

can you share the link or document which you used to deploy this VCSA.

Hi @Sureshkumar M

I did not use a specific document to deploy the VCSA, I just downloaded the the Virtual Appliance from here,

I then deployed a new virtual machine from an OVF file found in the download. After a successfull inport. Is tarted the machine and followed the displayed URL to configure the appliance. I have done nothing more at this point in time.

Also without configuring SSO, you SSO admin credentials like Administrator@vsphere.local will not work. You have to login to VAMI page and configure the appliance.

I thank you very much Sir.  I have actually just figured out what the username is by looking at the information on the page.

I have successfully logged in and can continue my testing.

Have a blessed day further!

Update Manager errors after 6.0 to 6.5.0 upgrade

$

Hello:

We recently went through a few upgrades (migrations) from vCenter 6.0 on Windows to the VCSA 6.5  on 3 separate vCenters.  We upgraded two vCenters in this manner and all was fine. However, recently I upgraded the last vCenter in the same way, and now Update Manager does not work from the Flash Client to any of the 3 vCenters.   The Update Manager service is running but the issue is the UI shows errors when clicking on each area of Update Manager.  The main pages load up but elements in the frames do not show up..., and I get errors such as:

  • interface com.vmware.vim.binding.integrity.VcIntegrity is not visible from class loader
  • An error occurred getting patches
  • Error getting ESXi images
  • Error getting VA upgrades

... and so on.  I've checked logs and so far do not see the cause.  I verified that I can telnet to the VCSA to port 8084, so the connection/firewall is good.  I also tried resetting the Update Manager database according to KB 2147284 : VMware Knowledge Base .

Still no luck.  Any ideas or has anybody seen this issue?  Not sure what else I can try, short of opening a ticket with VMware.  Thanks for the help.

Hi!

Do you mean that you have external Update manager and you can't connect it to vcenter servers?

I'm asking because update manager is embeded into VCSA 6.5 now and I don't fully understand your issue.
